“Beatles Out Of The Philippines” July 1966 protest handbill
Unique, one of a kind, original first printing protest flyer from The Beatles’ disastrous visit to the Philippines in July 1966. The Beatles had unintentionally snubbed the country’s first lady, Imelda Marcos, who had expected them to attend her breakfast reception at the Presidential Palace. Marcos was infuriated and the snub was broadcast on Philippine television and radio. All of a sudden their police protection disappeared. The hotel was being attacked and they had to flee to the airport. As they moved through the terminal, bands of demonstrators appeared, grabbing at them and trying to hit them. Even the cops began to shove the Beatles back and forth. Road manager Mal Evans was beaten and kicked, and the band members were pushed and jostled about by the hostile crowd. A very uncommon and significant little piece of Beatles history.
The flyer measures 16.2 x 13.8 cm (approx. 6.4″ by 5.4″ inches) and is printed in black ink by the letterpress process on thin, uncoated paper stock. In near excellent unfolded condition.. Feel free to email us with any questions you may have concerning this item. Additional images of the flyer available on request.
