Congress Centrum, Hamburg November 1977 concert poster

Original first printing concert poster advertising American folk singer and activist Joan Baez at the Congress Centrum in Hamburg [Germany] on Monday, 7th November, 1977, presented by Lippmann+Rau in cooperation with local Hamburg impresario Karsten Jahnke. The Hamburg show was part of Baez’s Fall 1977 European tour in support of the Blowin’ Away album. Produced by David Kershenbaum and released in June 1977, Blowin’ Away was her first album after switching from A&M Records to Portrait Records. It veered more toward mainstream pop than any album Baez had recorded up to that point, though many critics at the time pointed out that she seemed not entirely comfortable with her “new sound”. Among the songs covered were the Rod Stewart hit “Sailing”, and the standard “Cry Me a River”, in addition to a number of Baez’ own compositions. The poster has been authentically signed by legendary impresario Fritz Rau, who was responsible for the German tour.

The poster measures 59.8 x 83.8 cm (approx. 23.5″ by 33″ inches) and is beautifully printed on thin, smooth-finish uncoated paper stock. There is a faint horizontal fold to the middle and a few tiny rips to the borders, else in remarkably near excellent condition. Feel free to email us with any questions you may have concerning this item. Additional images of the poster available on request.
