Description
Nakano Sun Plaza Hall, Tokyo September/October 1978 concert flyer
Original first printing double-sided concert flyer advertising American jazz pianist and bandleader Herbie Hancock at the Nakano Sun Plaza Hall in Tokyo [Japan] on 27th & 28th September and 3rd October, 1978, in support of the Sunlight album. Produced by David Rubinson, the album features Hancock’s vocals through a vocoder as well as performances by drummer Tony Williams and bassist Jaco Pastorius. This was when Hancock began heading towards a more mainstream Smooth Jazz/R&B fusion, similar to fellow Jazz-Fusion pianist Patrice Rushen. This would last until his 1982 album Lite Me Up. For the Japanese tour, Hancock was accompanied by keyboard player Webster Lewis, multireedist Bennie Maupin, percussionist Bill Summers, bassist Paul Jackson, and drummer Mike Clark.
The flyer measures 18.2 x 25.7 cm (approx. 7.1″ by 10.1″ inches) and is printed on thin, coated paper stock. In excellent unfolded condition. Feel free to email us with any questions you may have concerning this item. Additional images of the flyer available on request.
