Original double-sided first printing concert flyer advertising “Jazz West Coast II” at the Kunstverbond in Antwerp and the Palais des Beaux-Arts in Brussels on Sunday, 16th March, 1958, presented by Pacific Jazz Records in cooperation with Joe Napoli. Two concerts in two different cities on the same day weren’t unusual back then, with the show in Antwerp commencing at 3.30 PM and the one in Brussels on 8.30 PM. Both shows were part of an ambitious European tour where the Bud Shank Quartet, featuring painist Claude Williamson, bassist Don Prell and drummer Jimmy Pratt, were joined by tenor saxophonist Bob Cooper and singer June Christy. “There were some promoters in Europe who were very anxious to get June Christy over there”, Claude Williamson recalls. “While they were dickering with her, they found they could get a whole group of West Coaters.” The tour began as a series of European bookings that brought the band to Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Antwerp, Brussels, Copenhagen, Hamburg, West Berlin, Milan, Rome, and other locations. Bootleg recordings from the tour find the group in fine form. At the last minute the tour was expanded to include South Africa, where the group gave separate concerts for black and white audiences. The Bud Shank Quartet broke up in 1959.

The flyer measures 15.0 x 20.9 cm and is beautifully printed in orange and black inks on medium-thin, uncoated paper stock. These unique Belgium flyers were mailed to members of the Belgian Hot Club as well as used as window cards in nearby theaters, shops and businesses as a promotional tool with the primary purpose of selling tickets. Ticket prices was 125 Belgian francs, while members of the H.C.B. would get a 25 franc discount. A couple of folder holes to the left side margin, else in near excellent unfolded condition.
