Eltzer Hof, Mainz March 1978 concert poster

Original first printing concert poster advertising British new wave band Ultravox at the Eltzer Hof in Mainz [Germany] on Friday, 3rd March, 1978, presented by Karsten Jahnke in cooperation with Z-Concerts. The concert in Mainz was part of a eight-date German tour during Fabruary and March in support of the Ha!-Ha!-Ha! album, commencing at the Gustav Siegle Haus in Stuttgart on 27th February and ending at Onkel Pö in Hamburg on 7th March, 1978. Recorded during May and June, 1977, and produced by Steve Lillywhite, Ha!-Ha!-Ha! was released on 14th October, 1978 by Island Records. Whilst the group’s first album had been a product of the David Bowie/Roxy Music-esque side of glam rock, Ha!-Ha!-Ha! was considerably more informed by the burgeoning punk movement, although it also marked the group’s first widespread adoption of synthesisers and electronic production techniques. It was the last album featuring original guitarist Stevie Shears, who left the band after the concert at the Marquee Club in London on 11th February, 1978, and was replaced by Robin Simon for the German tour.

The poster measures 57.8 x 82.3 cm (approx. 22.7″ by 32.4″ inches) and is beautifully printed in red and black inks on thin, coated paper stock. Neatly folded horizontally at the middle, else in remarkably near excellent condition. Feel free to email us with any questions you may have concerning this item. Additional images of the poster available on request.
