Tonhalle, Düsseldorf October 1982 concert poster

Original first printing concert poster advertising the “Pablo Jazz Festival ’82” staged at the Tonhalle in Düsseldorf [Germany] on Saturday, 2nd October, 1982, presented by René Heinersdorff. Performing artists included Ella Fitzgerald, the Oscar Peterson Trio, and jazz guitarist Joe Pass. Two shows on the same night, with the first commencing at 7 PM and the second at 10.15 PM. This was the third and final Pablo Jazz Festival in Germany, the other two being held in 1975 and 1977. Peterson’s trio presumably featured bassist Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen and drummer Martin Drew. Pablo Records was a jazz record company and label founded by Norman Granz in 1973, more than a decade after he had sold his labels (including Verve Records) to MGM Records. Pablo initially featured recordings by acts that Granz managed: Ella Fitzgerald, Oscar Peterson, and Joe Pass. Later, the label issued recordings by Count Basie, Dizzy Gillespie, Sarah Vaughan, Milt Jackson, and Paulinho da Costa. The label also re-released 1950s recordings by Art Tatum, which Granz reacquired, and released unissued European live recordings of John Coltrane and his groups. In January 1987, it was announced that the label had been acquired by Fantasy Records for an undisclosed amount.

The poster measures 59.3 x 84.0 cm (approx. 23.3″ by 33.1″ inches) and is printed in black ink on thin, smooth-finish uncoated paper stock. In excellent unfolded condition, clean and unmarked. Feel free to email us with any questions you may have concerning this item. Additional images of the poster available on request.
