Originally published by Grove Press in 1958, The Subterraneans is a semi-fictional account of the author’s short romance with a black woman named Alene Lee (Mardou Fox) in San Francisco, 1953 [Charters D58].

Crown octavo (8vo), 144 pp. In original pictorial uncoated wrappers with French flaps printed in green and black. All edges of the text block are untrimmed and unstained. Published in the uncut state. Very light wear to spine and extremities, else near fine, tightly bound and clean. Additional photos available on request.
