Prague: Vydal Odeon (Světová Četba Sv. 489), 1978. First Cezch edition of On the Road, translated by Jiří Josek. Issued in a series called, Světová Četba, which translates as World of Reading. Contains an 18-page introduction by Martin Hilský titled “Osamely Poutnik Jack Kerouac” [“Lonesome Traveler Jack Kerouac”]. Printed by Vytiskla Státní tiskárna, Prague, and published in an edition of 11,000 copies. Publishing price was 21 Kčs. Dust jacket artwork credited to František Muzika.

Considered a defining work of the postwar beat and counter culture generations, On the Road was originally published by Viking Press on 5th September, 1957. The novel was chosen by Time magazine as one of the 100 best English-language novels from 1923 to 2005, and the Modern Library ranked the book 55th on its list of the 100 best English-language novels of the 20th century.

Crown octavo (8vo), 384 pp. Plain white uncoated wrappers in dark green illustrated uncoated dust jacket. Wrappers are rubbed with some smudging. Foxing to spine, which is slightly slanted. Jacket is slightly rubbed with wear to extremities. Additional photos available on request.
