Description

May 1958 German concert tour program

Original vintage concert program for Norman Granz’ Jazz At The Philharmonic nationwide tour of Germany during May 1958, presented by the German Jazz Federation. The German concerts were part of the seventh European tour and featured Dizzy Gillespie, Roy Eldridge, Stan Getz, Coleman Hawkins, Sonny Stitt, Lou Levy, Pete Johnson, Herb Ellis, Ray Brown, Max Bennett, Gus Johnson, and Joe Turner. Though part of the JATP entourage, Ella Fitzgerald and Oscar Peterson were noticeable absent. The reason was they were touring Germany in their own names at the same time, Fitzgerald accompanied by The Lou Levy Trio, while Peterson’s trio featured Ray Brown and Herb Ellis. The program features striking artwork by Günther Kieser and Hans Michel.

In original red and black pictorial matte-coated wrappers, staple bound, 22.0 x 27.0 cm, 32 pp. Program notes in German. Light wear to spine and extremities, else in excellent condition, tightly bound and clean. Additional images of the program available on request.
