Brussels, Antwerp and Liege February 1958 concert flyer

Original first printing double-sided concert flyer advertising American vibraphonist, pianist, percussionist, and bandleader Lionel Hampton’s three concerts at the Majestic in Antwerp and the Stadium in Brussels on Sunday, 16th February, and at the Theatre Royal in Liege on Monday, 17th February, 1958, presented by Le Hot Club de Belgique. Two performances on the same day, even in two different cities, weren’t unusual back then, although the time schedule must have been tight. The concerts in Belgium were part of Hampton’s sixth European tour with an orchestra featuring Leon Zachary and Bobby Plater (alto saxophones); Andy McGee (tenor saxophone); Louid Blackburn, Wade Marcus, Larry Wilson (trombones); Eddie Williams, Art Hoyle, Eddie Mullens, Dave Gonzales (trumpets); Oscar Denard (piano); Billy Mackel (guitar, vocals); Julius Brown (bass); Wilbert Hogan (drums); and Cornelius James (vocals). The concert in Liege was recorded and is now available on CD as Lionel Hampton Live in ’58 as part of the “Jazz Icons Series 3”.

The flyer measures 21.0 x 15.0 cm and is beautifully printed in blue and black inks on medium-thin, uncoated paper stock. These unique Belgium flyers were mailed to members of the Belgian Hot Club as well as used as window cards in nearby theaters, shops and businesses as a promotional tool with the primary purpose of selling tickets. Ticket prices was 125 Belgian francs, while members of the H.C.B. would get a 25 franc discount. Light creasing to the bottom left corner, else in near excellent unfolded condition. Feel free to email us with any questions you may have concerning this item. Additional images of the flyer available on request.
