March 1952 French “Disques Vogues” promo handbill
Vintage original first printing promotional handbill issued by French record label Disques Vogues to promote the release of two records by American jazz trumpeter, bandleader, composer, and singer Dizzy Gillespie, namely “Afro Paris”/”I Cover the Waterfront” (Vogue 5129) and “Say eh!”/”Hurry Home” (Vogue 5130). The records were released on Thursday, 27th March, 1952. “On sale at your local record store from Monday 31st March, 1952″, as it says on the handbill. On these recordings Dizzy was accompanied by Joe Benjamin (bass), Umberto Canto (conga drums), Buddy Clarke (drums), Kenny Burrell (guitar), Arnold Ross (piano), and Don Byas (tenor saxophone).
The handbill measures 9.0 x 20.8 cm (approx. 3.5″ by 8.2″ inches) and is beautifully printed on thin, uncoated paper stock. In near excellent unfolded and unmarked condition. Photo of the back of the handbill available on request.
