Odeon, Newcastle October 1958 concert flyer

Original first printing concert flyer advertising American composer, pianist and big band leader Duke Ellington (1899–1974) at the Odeon in Newcastle [England] on Tuesday, 14th October, 1958, presented by Harold Davison. Two concerts on the same night, with the first commencing at 6.40 PM and the second at 8.50 PM. The Newcastle shows were part of Ellington’s nationwide tour of Great Britain during October 1958, commencing at the Royal Albert Hall in London on 5th October and ended with two shows at the Gaumont State in Kilburn on 25th & 26th October. The orchestra for the tour featured Ray Nance (trumpet/violin), Cat Anderson (trumpet), Johnny Hodges (alto), Harold Baker (trumpet), Clark Terry (trumpet), Quentin Jackson (trombone), Britt Woodman (trombone), John Sanders (trombone), Russell Procope (alto), Jimmy Hamilton (clarinet/tenor), Paul Gonsalves (tenor), Harry Carney (baritone), Jimmy Woode (bass), Sam Woodyard (drums), and Billy Strayhorn (piano).

The flyer measures 12.5 x 20.1 cm (approx. 4.9″ by 7.9″ inches) and is beautifully printed in black ink on thin, smooth-finish uncoated paper stock. Complete with the original postal booking form still intact. Folded horizontally at the middle with a touch of light surface handling wear, else in remarkably near excellent condition.
