Philharmonie, Cologne & Fabrik, Hamburg September/October 1986 concert flyer

Large original first printing double-sided concert flyer advertising American jazz trumpeter Miles Davis at the Philharmonie in Cologne and the Fabrik in Hamburg on 18th September and 24th October, 1986, in support of the Tutu album, Miles’ tribute to Archbishop Desmond Tutu, the first black Anglican Archbishop of Cape Town, South Africa. Primarily recorded at Capitol Studios in Los Angeles and Clinton Recording in New York, the album was produced by Marcus Miller and Tommy LiPuma and released in September 1986 on Warner Bros Records just prior to the Fall 1986 European tour. Besides the leader himself, the octet included Bob Berg (ss, ts); Garth Webber (g); Robert Irving III (synth); Adam Holzman (synth); Darryl Jones (el-b); Vincent Wilburn Jr. (drums); and Steve Thornton (perc). This was a time of some upheaval for Miles and his band. By the end of the year, Webber and Thornton would leave, and by early 1987, Berg and Wilburn had left. By the time Miles returned to Europe in summer 1987, only Miles, Jones, Irving and Holzman would still be in the band.

The flyer measures 21.0 x 29.7 cm and is printed in black ink on thin, yellow uncoated paper stock. In excellent unfolded and unmarked condition. Feel free to email us with any questions you may have concerning this item. Additional images of the flyer available on request.
