December 1976 South African concert tour program

Original vintage concert program produced for Dave Brubeck’s December 1976 tour of South Africa with his sons Darius, Chris and Dan. Billed as “Dave Brubeck and the Two Generations of Brubeck”, the itenerary included concerts at the Colosseum Theatre in Johannesburg, the Nico Malan Theatre in Cape Town, and the Playhouse Theatre in Durban. Brubeck never swerved in his refusal to accept segregation and his contract with the South African promoters stipulated that he and his band would play to an integrated house. Furthermore he insisted on a local opening act, Malombo and hired Victor N’Toni to play acoustic bass. The Playhouse Theatre in Durban had a whites only policy, and Brubeck cancelled the two concerts in Durban, but played to mixed black and white audiences in both Johannesburg and Cape Town.

In original black and white pictorial matte-coated wrappers, staple bound, 18.9 x 22.5 cm, 12 pp. In near excellent condition, tightly bound and clean. Additional images of the program available on request.
